Town house gut renovation
Given that everything on instagram looks so effortlessly easy - sometimes we forget that in every aspect of life there is probably a long process behind somehting that looks and feels amazing. So I want to share with you a little of the before and after of this town house gut renovation so you get a little glance into the behind the scenes of interior design.
Entrance. Obviousy the pre-owners of this house were not afraid of colour. And dont get me wrong - I love colour - but it must really be used with care and coordinated strategically.
BEFORE
The entrance and lounge area were not very big, however I recommended to the client a separation between the entrance and living space. It is always a plus in terms of creating a more intimate atmosphere for the living space. So we ended up creating a semi-separation which allowed for visual fluency while defining the two spaces.
Natural oak beams seemed like the perfect solution to separate the two spaces.

In order to add modernity to the victorian house and create a sharper look, we painted the staircase balustrade black and added wall panels along the staircase. The family had young children and panels are always more durable on a high traffic area such as staircases.

A custom made bookcase was created in order to add some storage and display space for this 'petite' sitting area.

Moving on to the kitchen renovation aspect. It was as colour saturated as the rest of the house so besides opening up what were two rooms, we had to adjust the colour scheme towards a more timeless look.
The only thing I did love in the old appearance of the house, but sadly had to change becasue of changing the layout, was the lovely and very timeless herring bone wooden floor.

Let's move on to the upstairs part of the house. My favourite part is the master bathroom which actually took the space of the forth bedroom. A luxurious spa like bathroom was created in this generous space.
The windows were changed throughout the house. On the front of the house, the same Victorian look had to be kept, however there were no restrictions to the back of the house, where spectacularly beautiful modern windows were added.

That is it for now! I hope you enjoyed the before and after pictures! It is always rewarding to see the end result but dont forget the process is always complex and involves a lot of problem solving. The good thing is Studio Andreea Franca has a rock solid process and always makes it fun!
